Nam Ngum 3 Hydropower Project
Nam Ngum 3 Power Company Limited (NN3 Co.) was established by the Electricite Du Laos (EDL)
for manage, control, and monitor the construction of Nam Ngum 3 Hydropower Project as well as to negotiation on important contracts with off-taker. EDL intend to sale whole electricity production to potential off-taker in Thailand. Therefore, EDL has plan to distribute Share Capital to two strategic investors, namely Chaleun Sekong Group Company Limited (CSG) and EGATi, respectively. EDL and CSE, an affiliate company of CSG, have entered into the Agreement for the Sale and Purchase of the Share Capital of NN3 Co. dated 16 July, 2019 including with the right of EGATi to purchase the shares of NN3 Co. under the Share Purchase Agreement upon approval from Thai Government.
Nam Ngum 3 Hydropower Project is located on the Ngum River in Xaysomboune Province, central of Laos, about 130 km north of Vientiane. The project is located in the upstream of Nam Ngum 1 (NN1) and Nam Ngum 2 (NN2), and in the downstream of Nam Ngum 4(NN4) and Nam Ngum 5 (NN5). It is a Concrete Face Rockfill Dam (CFRD) with a total capacity of 480 MW (3x160 MW) and construction is undertaken by Sino Hydro Corporation, a Chinese contractor. The Project is funding by Chinese EXIM Bank.
